Top 10 Foundational Supplements (continued)

Dietary supplements are intended to add to the diet and are not meant to be a replacement for food. They can be a variety of vitamins, minerals, herbs, botanicals, fish oils, probiotics, and other substances that can provide nutrients that may be lacking in the diet or cannot be consumed in amounts that would give the necessary benefits.

Foundational supplements benefit everyone by helping general overall health concerns such as heart, brain or bone and joint health. They are often utilized for prevention in the aging process.

6. REG ́ACTIV®  Essential ME-3 (Essential Formulas Inc) is a unique option for promoting better glutathione levels.

Glutathione (GSH) is often referred to as the body’s master antioxidant that the body can make in the liver. Depleted Glutathione levels have been associated with oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and neurodegeneration. Oxidative stress (OS) occurs when there is an imbalance between the production of free radicals and the body’s ability to counteract the damage. The level of glutathione in your body can drop with age. It can be affected by a poor diet, a lack of exercise, chronic diseases like diabetes and sleep apnea, a weaker immune system, infection, stress, and more.

In 1995, award-winning microbiologist Marika Mikelsaar, MD, PhD and her team of research scientists isolated the probiotic strain called Lactobacillus fermentum ME-3. This unique strain is able to produce the super antioxidant glutathione. Daily supplementation ensures the most effective availability of this key nutrient for optimal health.

7. Coenzyme Q10 or CoQ10 is an important vitamin-like substance required for the proper function of many organs and chemical reactions in the body. It is a natural substance that helps convert food into energy. CoQ10 is found in almost every cell in the body, and it is a powerful antioxidant.

According to a study published in the 2011 Journal of Pharmacy and BioAllied Sciences, “The primary biochemical action of CoQ10 is as a cofactor in the electron-transport chain, in the series of redox reactions that are involved in the synthesis of adenosine triphosphate. As most cellular functions are dependent on an adequate supply of Adenosine triphosphate (ATP), CoQ10 is essential for the health of virtually all human tissues and organs. Coenzyme Q10 is one of the most significant lipid antioxidants, which prevents the generation of free radicals and modifications of proteins, lipids, and DNA.”

8. Omega 3 fatty acids are a type of polyunsaturated fat. We need these fats for the vascular and nervous system throughout the body, especially in the brain, and retina. The body cannot produce omega-3 on its own, however they are nutrients you get from food (or supplements) nuts, seeds and fish, as well as dietary supplements. Omega 3 is also an energy source and help keep your heart, lungs, blood vessels, and immune system working the way they should. They support all aspects of your cognitive health and protect against age-related mental decline, improve risk factors for heart disease and fight long-term inflammation.

9: Serrapeptase is an enzyme found in silkworms. It has been used for years in Japan and Europe for reducing inflammation and pain. Serrapeptase has shown to improve circulation and reduce swelling by breaking down fibrin and inhibiting the formation of molecules that attract inflammatory cells to the site of trauma. Reducing swelling furthermore helps with pain.

Serrapeptase also inhibits the formation of pain-inducing compounds known as kinins. It is delivered directly to tissues that have been injured or are under stress. It also decreases the viscosity of mucus and reduces symptoms of congestion. Since serrapeptase might decrease blood clotting, it should not be used with drugs that also affect platelets or clot formation.

10. Nattokinase is an enzyme that comes from a Japanese food called natto. Natto is made from boiled soybeans that have been fermented with a type of bacteria. Recent research has demonstrated that Nattokinase has potent fibrinolytic activity, antihypertensive, anti-atherosclerotic, and lipid-lowering, antiplatelet, and neuroprotective effects. It should not be taken with anti-clotting / blood thinning medications.

According to a study published in the September 2022 Journal Molecules Nattokinase also reduces the spike proteins of the COVID Virus. The research states, “Our data suggest that the protease activity of nattokinase plays a crucial role in S protein degradation.”
